Our picks

  • Best for most pool routes: GorillaDesk Pro, $99 a month for the first route plus $50 per added route
  • Best if pool is one of several services, or you prepay a year: Jobber Connect, $99 a month billed annually
  • Best for crews up to 8 that want route optimization: Housecall Pro Max, $299 a month billed annually

None of the three names chemical reading logs in the plan details we track. If that log decides it for you, trial a pool-specific tool alongside.

A pool route business runs on three things: weekly recurring stops in a sensible driving order, a record of what you tested and added at each pool, and billing that goes out every month without you touching it. Pricing matters too. Some tools charge by route, others by user, and that changes your bill as you add trucks.

These picks are based on each vendor’s pricing page (checked October 27, 2026) and their published plan details. Of the three, only GorillaDesk lists pool service as one of its core trades. Jobber and Housecall Pro are generalists.

Which is cheapest depends on how you pay. Month-to-month, GorillaDesk is cheapest for one or two trucks ($99 and $149 versus $139 and $168 for Jobber Connect). On annual billing, Jobber Connect ties GorillaDesk at one tech ($99) and costs less from two techs up ($128 versus $149). Housecall Pro costs the most at every size, because the plan that names recurring service plans is its top tier.

So GorillaDesk’s case isn’t price alone. It’s the route-based design, pool listed as a core trade, and free office users.

GorillaDesk

GorillaDesk is built for recurring route work in pest control, lawn care and pool service, and it prices by route instead of by user. Basic ($49) covers invoices, estimates and work orders, basic routing up to 25 stops, Square and Stripe payments, automated emails and texts, and material tracking. For a pool route, Pro ($99) is the real starting point: it adds recurring billing, drive-time routing, GPS tracking and time clock, a customer portal with online booking, review generation and QuickBooks Online sync. Admins, managers and sales users don’t count against your bill, which helps if a spouse or office manager runs billing.

Good fit if

  • Recurring route work: pest control, lawn treatments, pool service
  • Businesses with office staff (admins, managers and sales users are free)

Skip it if

  • One-off project work such as remodeling or handyman jobs
  • Owners who need trades outside pest, lawn, pool and cleaning

What works

  • Priced per route; office users are free
  • Recurring billing, drive-time routing and GPS on Pro
  • Lists pool service among its core trades
  • Cheapest month-to-month option for one or two trucks

What doesn't

  • Recurring billing needs Pro, not the $49 Basic
  • No annual discount listed, so Jobber annual matches or beats it on price
  • Texting number and text credits cost extra
  • Chemical reading logs not named in the plan details we track
  • Trial length not stated

Route math on Pro: each added route is $50 a month, so two routes come to $149, three to $199 and five to $299. Moving from Basic to Pro adds $50 a month for the first route, and that’s the price of automatic recurring billing. Growth ($149 for the first route, then $100 for route 2 and $50 for each after) adds custom fields, custom job statuses and multi-branch support. Custom fields could be one way to record readings, but GorillaDesk’s plan details don’t say so, so test it during the trial.

Budget for texting too: a dedicated texting number is $5 a month and text credits start at $50 per 1,000. Payments run through your own Square or Stripe account.

Skip it if you also sell one-off project work like repairs or remodels, or you’re happy to prepay a year and want the lowest bill (Jobber Connect annual is cheaper from two techs up).

Jobber

Jobber is a polished generalist. If you clean pools and also sell pressure washing, lawn or handyman work, it handles all of it in one account. For pool billing, Connect is the plan to look at: automated client reminders, automated quote and invoice follow-ups, automatic payments, QuickBooks Online sync, and time and expense tracking. It’s $139 a month, or $99 billed annually, for one user, and the first year on annual prepay is $70 a month. Core ($49, or $29 annual) covers quotes, invoices, online booking, scheduling and online payments, but not automatic payments.

Good fit if

  • Solo operators willing to prepay annually (Core is $29/mo after the first-year promo)
  • Owners who want clients to approve quotes and pay online without phone tag
  • Mixed-trade businesses that don't fit a niche tool

Skip it if

  • Anyone who must stay month-to-month (list prices run 34–69% above the annual rate)
  • Teams that need job costing or two-way texting on a budget (both start at Grow)

What works

  • Automatic payments, reminders and QuickBooks on Connect
  • Lowest price here on annual billing from two techs up
  • First-year promo: $70/mo for Connect on annual prepay
  • 14-day trial with no credit card

What doesn't

  • Pool service is not among its listed trades
  • Routing and recurring visit tools are not specified in the plan details we track
  • Monthly billing on Connect costs $480 more a year for one user
  • Two-way SMS and job costing start at Grow

The gap for pool routes: Jobber’s plan details we track don’t describe route ordering, route optimization or chemical logs. Before you commit, build one full day of weekly stops in the trial and see how it handles them.

For crews, added users are $29 a month each. Two techs on Connect come to $128 a month annual or $168 monthly. At three techs, the 5-user tier ($149 annual) beats one user plus two add-ons ($157) on annual billing, while month-to-month the add-ons ($197) edge out the 5-user tier ($199). Card payments run 2.9% + 30¢, and US bank payments 1%.

Skip it if you must stay month-to-month (GorillaDesk is cheaper for one or two trucks that way), or pool service is your whole business and you want a tool built around routes.

Housecall Pro packs a lot into each tier. Essentials ($189, or $149 annual, up to 5 users) adds routes, checklist automations, employee GPS tracking, commissions and QuickBooks sync on top of Basic’s booking, dispatch, payments and job costing. For pool routes, though, Max ($329, or $299 annual, up to 8 users) is where recurring service plans and route optimization appear, along with an open API and dedicated onboarding. If you run 4 to 8 techs, Max puts routes, GPS, checklists and recurring plans under one flat price.

Good fit if

  • Crews of 2–5 who want routes, GPS and QuickBooks sync in one mid-tier plan
  • Trades that sell bigger tickets and benefit from built-in consumer financing
  • Owners who build quotes from a standard price book

Skip it if

  • Budget-first solo operators (Basic costs about twice Jobber Core on annual billing)
  • Anyone who wants every cost up front (most add-on prices aren't published)

What works

  • Recurring service plans and route optimization on Max
  • Max covers up to 8 users for one price
  • Checklist automations and GPS from Essentials
  • Payments and consumer financing from Basic

What doesn't

  • Max is $299/mo even on annual billing
  • Recurring service plans not named below Max
  • Most add-on prices are not published
  • Pool service is not among its listed trades

Stepping up from Essentials to Max costs $150 a month on annual billing. Essentials does include routes and checklists, but its plan details don’t name recurring service plans, so confirm how it handles weekly repeat stops before you settle for the cheaper tier. Card processing is listed “as low as 2.59%”, depending on payment type. Past 8 users, each added user is $35 a month.

Skip it if you’re a solo route owner (you’d pay top-tier prices for one truck) or you want every cost up front.

Chemical readings: the gap in all three

For many pool owners, the service report is the product: what the chlorine and pH read, what you added, and proof you were there. None of these three tools names a chemical readings log in the plan details we track. That doesn’t mean you can’t record readings, only that you should test it before you move your route.

This is where pool-specific software comes in. Skimmer is built for route-based pool cleaning companies; its current plans are in our price index. It isn’t ranked here because this comparison covers general field service tools, but it belongs on your trial list if readings drive your decision. Smart Service’s list of pool service apps, which includes its own product among its picks, also names separate water chemistry apps such as Pool Brain that can sit alongside a route tool.

Two cautions when researching. BlueRoute’s comparison of pool platforms covers per-tech and per-pool fees, so check how your bill grows with your pool count, not only your headcount. And one r/smallbusiness thread asking for pool business apps includes a reply from a vendor (PoolDial) promoting its own product, so weigh forum picks accordingly.

If you also run lawn or pest routes, GorillaDesk covers those too. See our lawn care software picks and pest control software picks.

Which should you pick

  1. Pool is your main business, one route per truck, paying monthly: GorillaDesk Pro. Budget $99 for the first route and $50 for each one after, plus texting.
  2. Pool is one service among several, or you’ll prepay a year: Jobber Connect on annual billing ($99 for one tech, $128 for two), and confirm it handles your weekly stop order during the trial.
  3. 4 to 8 techs, want route optimization and recurring plans from one vendor: Housecall Pro Max.
  4. The chemical log is non-negotiable: trial a pool-specific tool such as Skimmer at the same time as your top pick.
  5. Trial with a real day. Load one full day of weekly stops, record readings for three pools the way you would on site, and set one customer up on automatic monthly billing. The tool that does all three without a workaround is your answer.

For most pool route owners, GorillaDesk is the most direct fit: built for recurring routes, priced by truck, with free office users and no annual commitment.

FAQ

What is the best software for a pool service business?

For most route owners, GorillaDesk Pro: $99 a month for one route plus $50 per added route, with recurring billing, drive-time routing and GPS. Jobber Connect suits owners who sell pool service alongside other work or prepay annually, and Housecall Pro Max suits crews of up to 8 that want route optimization.

Which pool service software is cheapest?

Month-to-month, GorillaDesk Pro is cheapest for one or two trucks ($99 and $149). On annual billing, Jobber Connect ties it at one tech ($99) and is cheaper from two techs up ($128 for two, $149 for up to five).

Is there a free app for pool service?

None of the three tools here has a free plan, though all offer free trials. One pool service app on Google Play advertises all features free for up to 10 clients or properties, which can work for a very small route.

Does pool service software track chemical readings?

Pool-specific tools are built around it, but GorillaDesk, Jobber and Housecall Pro don't name a chemical readings log in the plan details we track. Test how each records readings during the trial, or look at a pool-specific tool like Skimmer.

Can I bill pool customers automatically every month?

Yes, but not on entry plans. GorillaDesk adds recurring billing on Pro ($99), Jobber adds automatic payments on Connect ($99 annual), and Housecall Pro names recurring service plans on Max ($299 annual).
