Short answer

  • You want to see the price before a sales call: Housecall Pro. Plans are $79, $189 and $329 a month ($59, $149 and $299 on annual billing) for 1, up to 5 and up to 8 users.
  • Your business runs on inbound calls or subcontractors: Workiz. Phone and AI answering tools sit at its center, and subcontractor management is on its entry plan. Pricing is quote-only.
  • Cleaning, lawn care or pressure washing crews: Housecall Pro fits more naturally, with routes, GPS tracking and recurring service plans. Workiz is aimed at call-driven trades like locksmith, garage door and appliance repair.

Both apps handle the core loop: estimates, scheduling, invoicing and online payments. They differ in three ways that usually decide it: whether you can see the price up front, how much your business depends on the phone, and how big your crew is.

Housecall Pro publishes every plan price. Workiz does not. Its pricing page lists plans and features, but you request a quote and talk to sales to get a number.

With Housecall Pro you can budget before you talk to anyone. A 10-person crew on Max month-to-month, for example, is $399/mo ($329 plus two added users at $35). Annual billing on Essentials saves $480 a year over paying monthly.

With Workiz you can’t do that math from the website. Some comparison pages that rank for this search list Workiz starting prices, but Workiz’s own pricing page asks you to request a quote, so treat any figure you see elsewhere as unverified until it’s in writing from Workiz.

Neither company is fully transparent on extras. Housecall Pro doesn’t publish prices for most add-ons (AI CSR, Voice, Payroll, Marketing campaigns and others), and Workiz doesn’t publish prices for its Genius Phone, Genius Answering or Genius Marketing add-ons.

Phone and call handling

This is the clearest split between the two.

AI lead handling and schedulingNot listed as a plan featurePro plan and up (Genius)

Workiz builds its pitch around the phone, and its AI lead handling is part of the Pro plan rather than a separate purchase. If most of your jobs start with a ringing phone and missed calls cost you work, that focus matters.

If you specifically need call tracking (which ads drove which calls, recordings, call reports), confirm in the demo exactly what Genius Phone includes. The pricing page describes it only as calls plus two-way texting. The same goes for Housecall Pro’s Voice add-on: its pricing page names it but doesn’t detail it.

Where Housecall Pro wins: more of the money tools on the entry plan. Job costing, consumer financing, a price book, online booking and review management all come on Basic. Routes, GPS tracking and QuickBooks Online sync arrive on Essentials, the up-to-5-user plan. For a crew running daily routes, that’s most of what you need without the top tier.

Where Workiz wins: subcontractor management and QuickBooks on its entry plan, AI lead handling on Pro, and inventory, multi-day jobs and franchise management on Ultimate. Those suit call-driven repair trades and businesses that farm out work.

One caveat: “not listed” means the vendor’s pricing page doesn’t mention it, not that it can’t be done. Ask about anything you rely on before you sign.

Housecall Pro is the pick if you want published prices and a lot of features at the lower tiers. Essentials ($149/mo annual, up to 5 users) adds routes, GPS tracking, commissions and QuickBooks Online sync on top of Basic’s job costing, financing and price book. Workiz is built for businesses where the phone is the job pipeline: locksmiths, garage door and appliance repair, and companies that use subcontractors. AI lead handling is on Pro, and phone and answering tools are add-ons. You will need a sales conversation to get a price, and the trial is only 7 days.

Good fit if

  • Call-driven trades that live on the phone (locksmith, garage door, appliance repair)
  • Businesses that use subcontractors

Skip it if

  • Owners who want to compare prices before talking to sales
  • Anyone who needs more than a week to evaluate (7-day trial)

Who should skip each one

Skip Housecall Pro if you’re a budget-first solo operator. Basic at $59/mo annual is roughly double Jobber’s entry plan; see Jobber vs Housecall Pro. Also skip it if you need every cost nailed down up front, since most add-on prices aren’t published.

Skip Workiz if you won’t shop without a price, or you need more than a week to put real jobs through it. Seven days is barely one work week. Cleaning, lawn and pressure washing crews that live on routes will also find Workiz’s pricing page light on route tools.

How to get a straight quote from Workiz

If Workiz’s phone focus fits, go into the demo with a list. Get answers in writing for:

  1. Price per month for your exact headcount, on monthly and annual billing.
  2. Which plan you actually need. Count your automations (5, 10 or 30 by plan) and check whether you need AI lead handling (Pro) or service plans (Ultimate).
  3. Genius Phone and Genius Answering costs, and whether calls are tracked by source.
  4. Card processing rate, which isn’t published.
  5. Contract length and cancellation terms.

Ask Housecall Pro for your real card rate too. “As low as 2.59%” depends on payment type.

Which should you pick?

  • Choose Housecall Pro if you run a crew of 2–8 doing route work like cleaning, lawn care or pressure washing, you want GPS and QuickBooks sync on a mid-tier plan, or your customers would use financing on bigger tickets.
  • Choose Workiz if most jobs start with a phone call, you rely on subcontractors, or you need inventory and multi-day jobs, and you’re comfortable getting pricing through sales.
  • Consider something else if you’re solo on a tight budget (Jobber) or run recurring pest or lawn treatment routes (GorillaDesk). Our best field service software roundup covers more options.

Run the trial with real jobs from this week, not demo data. With Workiz, book the demo first so the 7 days aren’t spent waiting on answers.

FAQ

Is Workiz cheaper than Housecall Pro?

There's no way to tell from the vendors' sites. Housecall Pro publishes $79, $189 and $329 per month ($59, $149 and $299 on annual billing), while Workiz only quotes prices on request, so get a written quote for your headcount and compare.

Does Housecall Pro do estimates?

Yes. Estimates and invoicing are included on every plan, starting with Basic at $79/mo ($59/mo annual), along with a price book. Flat-rate pricing is added on Essentials.

Which has better phone features, Workiz or Housecall Pro?

Workiz is built around the phone: AI lead handling is on its Pro plan, and Genius Phone (calls and two-way texting) and Genius Answering are add-ons. Housecall Pro offers Voice and AI CSR add-ons. Neither publishes add-on prices, so confirm features like call tracking in a demo.

How long are the free trials?

Housecall Pro offers 14 days with Max plan features and no credit card. Workiz offers 7 days, also with no card.

What's better, Housecall Pro or Jobber?

For solo operators, Jobber is cheaper on annual billing; Housecall Pro Basic costs about twice Jobber Core. For crews of 2–5, Housecall Pro Essentials adds routes, GPS tracking and QuickBooks Online sync on top of the job costing and financing included on every plan. Our Jobber vs Housecall Pro comparison breaks it down by crew size.
